Hurricane Dorian Disaster Relief
K1 DIRECT has deployed a team of volunteers of the Curacao and St. Maarten branch to the Bahamas to assist with relief efforts caused by Hurricane Dorian.
On ground, K1 DIRECT has been asked to help manage the warehouse and distribution center in Freeport, with NEMA, to process and work alongside local volunteers to coordinate the organization and distribution of supplies to be distributed to homes and shelters across Grand Bahama.
In Nassau, K1 DIRECT has been supporting IOM – UN Migration by sending volunteers to assess buildings, compiling notes and meeting persons within the local community, and between international aid organizations to find solutions for immediate to long-term additional shelters and housing for evacuees. In Nassau, K1 DIRECT also assisted with registering evacuees from Abaco and Freeport into the Bahamas.
The team has also been actively counselling and providing emotional and psycho-social support to those affected by this tragedy.
Together with its sister organisations, K1 Britannia America is focused on a variety of international maritime-related projects, such as the build of Britannia, the development of disaster relief and crisis teams for effective relief in the event of disasters in the Caribbean, and the development of maritime apprenticeship programmes on St. Maarten and in other countries.
